Summary
of my career (in reverse chronological order):
- Currently working as an SQL Server DBA for Barclays Capital, one of the biggest investment banks in the UK, and am working on an SQL Server consolidation and migration to SQL Server 2005 project.
- Worked as a senior
SQL Server DBA for Tesco.com, the world's largest online grocer, with more than 8 Million customers.
- Worked as an
SQL Server DBA for Digital, a subsidiary of Compaq Computer
Corporation, now merged with HP.
- Worked as a
DBA / Database Specialist with the
development teams at Aditi
Technologies Private Limited. I was responsible
for the database design, development and
administration of Aditi's client
projects.
- Worked as a
DBA + Webmaster for the corporate
website of Aditi
Technologies Private Limited. Migrated the
website to a new web server and later
created a new site from scratch.
- Moved to Microsoft, USA (Dallas, TX)
to work as an SQL Server Technical
Support Engineer. Worked in second level
support (SRG) and solved hundreds of SQL
Server problems. Dealt with premier
customers of Microsoft and ensured high
customer satisfaction rates.
- Started my
career as a Visual Basic Support Engineer
at a Microsoft Regional Support Center in
Bangalore, India. Provided email, phone
and onsite support to Microsoft Visual
Basic, SQL Server, and Access customers.
Got promoted as a Technical Account
Manager for an account.

Responsibilities:
As a DBA, my previous responsibilities included
the following:
- Going through
the clients' requirements and coming up
with database design and application
architecture.
- Providing
consultation on SQL Server to our
development teams.
- Installing,
configuring, administering and securing
our as well as our clients' production
servers.
- Coming up
with custom-tailored backup/restore and
disaster recovery plans for production
servers.
- Troubleshooting
performance issues and fine-tuning
queries and stored procedures.
- Implementing
and administering database replication
between SQL Server databases as well as
dissimilar databases.
- Writing code
and creating jobs to automate repetitive
tasks.
- Upgrading and
upsizing databases from earlier versions
to the latest versions.
As an SQL Server
technical support engineer at Microsoft, I was responsible for the
following:
- Successfully
resolving SQL Server problems in
conformance with SLAs, which involves
in-depth knowledge of SQL Server
architecture, connectivity, replication,
DTS, backup/restore, database corruption,
security, programming etc.
- Ensuring high
customer satisfaction rates.
- Working at an
escalation level (Secondary Response
Group, SRG) and working with issues which
are very time consuming and complex.
(Solved around 270 customer problems)
- Generating
content: Wrote 80 internal Solution
Objects (SOs), most of them were related
to SQL Server 7.0 replication. Also
created about 10 public knowledgebase
articles
- Researching
customer problems and filing bugs with
SQL Server development team in Redmond.
(I filed about 30 bugs in SQL Server 7.0
and 2000).
- Participate
actively in Microsoft internal discussion
forums to help fellow Microsoft employees.
